Why posting a salary range changes everything
Many employers hesitate to post the salary. Yet hiding that information wastes everyone's time.
What it changes
- Applications are better targeted: people outside the range don't apply.
- Interviews are shorter: the salary question is settled from the start.
- Your company looks more transparent.
How to build the range
First, look at the market for a similar position in your region and industry. Then compare with your current employees in similar roles. A range well below the market will drive good profiles away. A range well above it will create internal tension.
Handling current employees
Before posting, check the gap with your current team. If a new position pays more, prepare an explanation or an adjustment.
What if you can't post it?
At least give the ballpark in the first conversation. A candidate who learns the salary at the third interview loses trust.
